Industry

The development and distribution of life-saving and sustaining medications is a critical component of public health in the HIV, STD, and Hepatitis disease states. There are multiple ways  can work with the pharmaceutical industry to assist in the delivery of treatment options to states through the ADAP (AIDS Drug Assitance Program), Medicaid, Medicaid managed care, and community-based clinics. State governments and the pharmaceutical industry have multiple issues in common.

They include:
  • The screening of all persons for HIV, Hepatitis, and STDs to ensure appropriate counseling, linkage, and referral to treatment and services; when early treatment is available, disease transmission is reduced and quality/quantity of life is increased

  • The need to increase the level of understanding of all persons involved in healthcare about HIV, Hepatitis, and other sexually transmitted diseases

  • A readiness to explore the opportunities for chronic disease management within the multi-faceted funding mechanisms to maximize on the traditionally separate resources and activities

  • A practice of bringing leading experts together on a regular basis to keep them informed and to seek advice related to the delivery of prevention, care, and treatment services for the designated population;

  • An awareness of the need to involve the community providers in the efforts to ensure a seamless network of state, industry, and community with a focus on chronic disease management.
